2019 Glades County Youth Livestock Show & Sale

MOORE HAVEN — The week leading up to the annual Chalo Nitka Festival is a very busy one for the Glades County Youth Livestock Organization and the nearly 125 exhibitors that exhibited their animals. The week is filled with Pee Wee, Dairy, Commercial Heifer, Swine and Steer Shows and ends with a Livestock Sale which rewards these exhibitors for their hard work during the week as well as the months before leading up to this week. All of the exhibitors did a great job with their animal entries each night and we do have some that received special awards during their shows and we would like to recognize them at this time.
Monday — We had 37 amazing 5- to 7-year-olds exhibit their rabbits, goats, pigs and dairy and beef calves. These young people are our future and we are very excited to see this program grow and for them to move on to the larger animal groups. We also had a Dairy show with nine entries and Riley Mullens won Grand Champion with one of her two entries, her brown swiss, Angel. Cassie Hart won Reserve Champion with her holstein Captain Amoolia. We also had Junior and Senior Showmanship competitions and those winners were: Junior Showmanship Champion, Jonathan Collier; second place, Madilyn Collier; third place, Alayna Palladino; Senior Showmanship Champion, Cassie Hart; second place, Riley Mullens, and third place, Sierra Hart. We finished out the night with our Commercial Heifer Show. There were four entries and Aubrey Pollard won Grand Champion with her heifer and Trinity Guerry won Home Grown Grand Champion with hers. Melvin Guerry was the breeder of Trinity’s Home Grown Heifer.
Tuesday night was our Swine show and we had 48 entries including a 4-H Chapter pig and a FFA Chapter pig. We started the show with our Showmanship competition. Our Junior Showmanship Champion was Addison Ridgdill; second place, Camryn Prowant; and third place, Emmalee Dionne. The Intermediate Showmanship Champion was Lilly Everett; second place, Caydence Cisneros; and third place, Dalton Conner. Last but certainly not least, our Senior Showmanship Champion was Tracie Branch; seond place, Jacey Ridgdill; and third place, Brice Prowant. We then had our Swine Show competition and Lilly Everett won the Grand Champion honors and Dalton Conner had our Reserve Champion Swine. All of the swine entries received a blue ribbon.
Wednesday night we had our last show of the week, our Steer show. We had 25 amazing looking entries competing. The Grand Champion honors as well as Home Grown Grand Champion went to Cross Fulford. The Reserve Champion and Home Grown Reserve Champion honors went to Hayne Fulford. The breeder of both of these steers is Melvin Guerry. The last competition of the night was Showmanship. Our Junior Showmanship Champion was Aubrey Pollard; second place, Hayne Fulford; and third place, Harley Pryor. Intermediate Showmanship Champion was Cross Fulford, second place, Cayson Holman, and third place, Wyatt Hines. Senior Showmanship Champion honors went to Gracie Goodwin, second place, Darcie McRoy, and third place, Ellie Goodwin.
Our great week concluded with our Livestock Sale on Thursday. We had a few presentations beforehand for the Breeder of our Home Grown Steers and Heifer, Mr. Melvin Guerry, by the Glades County Cattlemen’s Association and also a buckle for our Steer Weight Gain Champion, Harley Pryor. Her steer gained 4.26 pounds per day. We then had another look at our amazing Pee Wee Exhibitors and then our sale began. The night went smoothly and was very successful in accomplishing the goal of rewarding our young people for their hard work. We cannot thank our Buyers and Add-on Contributors enough for the amazingly generous support they show our youth through their participation in this Livestock Sale. Just with sale purchases alone, before any add-ons were figured in, the sale total for these youth was nearly $279,000. Not only is this organization extremely grateful for those who contribute financially but they would also like to express their appreciation to all of the many volunteers who worked together to make this another successful year for the youth of Glades County.
