Glades County Woman’s Club hosts annual tea

MOORE HAVEN – Members of the Glades County Woman’s Club had another successful Annual Tea on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Members enjoyed a catered meal by Big Joe’s BBQ of Lehigh. While the name may make you think you know what the menu was, it was quite the opposite. Members enjoyed two types of unusual chicken salad, pulled pork sliders, traditional potato salad, coleslaw with fruit and a coconut cake with pineapple filling. Member Kelly Brantley made sugar cookies in the shape of tea pots and flowers. The cookies were the coveted dessert with everyone taking a bag home.

Special to the Lake Okeechobee News
Deona Campos, Winner of the Most Beautiful Hat contest.

Decorations for the tea included the club’s china tea cups and tea pots, lace doilies and flower tableware. The members always enjoy the tea as a chance to experiment with different flavors of hot tea. Super fruit blueberry, Meyer lemon, chocolate latte, Black Forest, mojito mint and mango passion were just a few of the tea flavors enjoyed.

As always, members were dressed in their finest, which included hats and fascinators. Deona Campos once again won the hat contest with the Most Beautiful Hat. She decorated her pink hat with shades of fuchsia, pink and grays. Members enjoyed lots of hilarious stories on towel folding and plastic surgery, to name a few. A great time was had by all. Member Trish Coleman was recognized for being a real go-getter. She is the newest member of the club and is a super saleswoman. She sold over $900 of tickets to a recent raffle as well as trays of leftover baked goods from a past event.

No business was conducted at the tea, but members did agree to participate in Art in the Park On Jan. 26, at Moore Haven City Park. The club will be selling baked goods.

If you are interested in being part of the Glades County Woman’s Club, contact any member or visit the Facebook page. New members need to be sponsored by an existing member and annual dues are $20. The next regular meeting is Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Moore Haven located at 300 Avenue J, Moore Haven.

The club has abundant funding for Glades County residents in need of a mammogram. Contact any member or send a private message on Facebook.
