SEBRING — Highlands Hammock State Park is celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary! The Florida Freedom Tour is scheduled to stop in the park on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Park visitors from communities throughout the greater Heartland are cordially invited to walk through the “mobile museum” sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of State.
This educational initiative is a journey through Florida history from its founding as the 14th British American Colony in St. Augustine through its rise and development in the 20th century. Exhibits and artifacts from the Museum of Florida History will be displayed on two semi-trucks across from the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.
The tour is ADA accessible.
There are many opportunities to view this exhibit as it travels through 67 Florida counties. Stops include urban and rural areas, civic spaces, special events and community gatherings. Follow the tour at America250FL.com or America250FL on social media. Visitors are also welcome to tour the CCC Museum, take a drive around the Loop Road, or hike a nature trail.
The Florida Freedom Tour mobile museum is free and open to the public
Park entry fees of $6 per vehicle (up to 8 people), $4 for a single-occupant vehicle and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists apply. Highlands Hammock is located at 5931 Hammock Road in Sebring.
