Moore Haven High is back open again

MOORE HAVEN — Moore Haven Middle High School has reopened to students following a nine-day shutdown, as of Tuesday, Oct. 6, says the schools’ Director of Administrative Services Jamie Brown.

Somewhere north of 60% of the Glades County School District’s students returned to their school buildings for the start of the 2020-21 school year, after all of them had been stuck in the “distance learning” situation since COVID-19 shutdowns began almost seven months ago.

“We were closed for nine days, but we opened back up and students were back in school today from that closure,” Brown said Tuesday.

He noted somewhere around two-thirds of Glades parents have sent their kids back to school.

“And it’s fluctuated a little bit … early on, there were parents who had their students in the other option and they chose to bring them back … so those numbers went up a little bit as the school year went along,” Brown said.

The school’s sports teams resume practice this week as well.
