MOORE HAVEN —  The Moore Haven Terriers varsity baseball team had a dramatic walk-off victory against the Lehigh Lightning on March 3.

The Terriers got on the board initially in the bottom of the first inning, but Lehigh responded in the second inning and took a 2-1 lead. The two teams battled back and forth with the Lightning maintaining a lead until the Terriers tied the game 5-5 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Terrier defense held Lehigh scoreless in the top of the seventh to maintain the tie and give themselves a chance to win the game. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Jaelin Johnson drove in a run to give the Terriers the walk-off victory.

Johnson led the Terriers on offense with 2 RBIs and two hits, including a double and a triple. Thaddeus Johns had three hits and 1 RBI. Kenny Simmons had one hit for the Terriers while Bryce Crumb had an RBI.

Johnson started the game on the mound for Moore Haven, throwing three hitless innings with four strikeouts.

The Terriers have a 5-4 record this season, including a sweep of the Pahokee Blue Devils and a 10-0 shutout over Glades Central.

The baseball team also has a brand-new scoreboard this season thanks to community sponsors. U.S. Sugar, First Bank, Seminole Tribe of Florida, Inc., and IMC Industrial Division helped the team purchase the new scoreboard.
