MOORE HAVEN -- Glades County School Board Superintendent Dr. Beth Barfield received a round of applause at the regular school board meeting Aug. 18 for achieving her superintendent certification.

The Florida Association of District School Superintendents awarded Barfield the certification after fulfilling extensive training requirements that included school law, school finance, collective bargaining, core leadership concepts and a superintendent’s leadership role in improving student achievement in accordance with Florida Statutes and State Board of Education requirements.

“Superintendent Barfield is commended for her efforts to expand and build on the skills and knowledge necessary to lead the school system in today’s complex society,” FADSS Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and Chief Executive Officer William J. Montford, III wrote in the confirmation letter to the school board.

“Your district is fortunate to have a leader who is committed to the continuous growth and enhancement of leadership skills for the continuous improvement of your school system.”

Barfield made a brief comment during the meeting that one reason she pursued the certification was to encourage other staff to do the same in their respective fields.

The certification entitles Barfield to a $2,000 annual supplement if she meets the annual renewal requirements. The FADSS recommended the effective date of the increase begin on June 1, as that was the date she completed the requirements.
