Trump's onetime friendship with Jeffrey Epstein is well-known — and also documented in records

WASHINGTON (AP) — The revelation that Attorney General Pam Bondi told President Donald Trump that his name was in the Jeffrey Epstein files has focused fresh attention on the president’s relationship with the wealthy financier and the Justice Department’s announcement this month that it would not be releasing any additional documents from the case. But at least some of the information in the briefing to Trump, which The Wall Street Journal said took place in May, should not have been a surprise. His association with Epstein is well-established and his name was included in records that his own Justice Department released back in February. Trump has never been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

Tesla shares sink as Musk says it could face some 'rough quarters' ahead

NEW YORK (AP) — Tesla shares are falling after CEO Elon Musk warned of "a few rough quarters" as the company shifts focus to offering a self-driving taxi service. On Wednesday, Tesla reported a 12% revenue drop and a 16% profit decline. Musk's political involvement and increased competition in Europe and China have affected sales. Tesla also faces losing a $7,500 EV tax credit and reduced income from selling regulatory credits. Tariffs on China and Mexico will further increase costs. Musk emphasized future plans for robotaxis and automation, though these won't impact profits soon. Tesla's robotaxi service began last month in Austin, Texas, with plans to expand.

The company has received three reports of magnets detaching from the cover. No injuries have been reported.

UnitedHealth says it is under a federal investigation and cooperating

Shares of UnitedHealth Group slipped Thursday after the health care giant said it was under a Department of Justice investigation. The company said it has started complying with both criminal and civil requests from federal investigators and it was working cooperatively with them. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal said federal officials had launched a civil fraud investigation into how the company records diagnoses that lead to extra payments for its Medicare Advantage plans. The company said Thursday that it reached out to the Justice Department after reviewing media reports about investigations.

Banksy work 'The Migrant Child' removed from Venetian palazzo for restoration and future display

MILAN (AP) — Art restorers have removed a deteriorating piece of graffiti by the street artist Banksy titled “The Migrant Child” from the side of a building overlooking a Venetian canal. It's a project to preserve the work for future public display. The removal and restoration is being financed by the Venice-based Banca Ifis carried out in consultation with people close to the secretive British street artist. The artwork depicting a shipwrecked child holding a pink smoke bomb and wearing a lifejacket appeared along Rio di San Pantalon in Venice in May 2019. It was acknowledged by Banksy. The artwork is marked on online maps and it has become a tourist destination. But six years of neglect had caused deterioration to about a third of the work.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR will hold a street race on Naval Base Coronado in Southern California next June as a replacement for its downtown Chicago event that ran the last three years. The move to the San Diego area doesn't eliminate a return to Chicago, where NASCAR will still maintain an office and effort an eventual return, perhaps as early as 2027. But the shift next year will allow NASCAR to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy by hosting all three of its national series over a three-day weekend on June 19-21.

8 children taken to hospitals after seizure-like symptoms at Harvard Square church concert

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Officials say eight children at a church near Harvard University where a French youth choir was holding a concert suffered seizure-like symptoms and were taken to hospitals. The Cambridge Fire Department responded Tuesday evening at St. Paul’s Parish in Harvard Square. Emergency crews were called after one child showed symptoms, which quickly spread to others. All eight were taken to hospitals. Officials confirm the symptoms were non-life-threatening. A hazmat team inspected the church and found no hazardous conditions. The church said a French youth choir performing a mix of sacred and secular music was scheduled to perform.

Science and local sleuthing identify a 250-year-old shipwreck on a Scottish island

LONDON (AP) — Archaeologists have identified a 250-year-old shipwreck uncovered on a remote Scottish beach. A mix of science and historical sleuthing found that it's an 18th-century naval warship and whaling vessel called the Earl of Chatham. The wreck was revealed in February 2024 after a storm swept away sand on Sanday which is part of Scotland’s Orkney Islands. Local farmers and researchers worked together to recover the ship’s 12 tons of oak timbers. Experts traced the ship’s history using tree-ring dating and historical records. It was originally named HMS Hind and it served in the American War of Independence before becoming a whaling ship. It was wrecked off Sanday in 1788.

45-year-old Venus Williams becomes the oldest woman since Martina Navratilova to win a singles match

WASHINGTON (AP) — Venus Williams has become the oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match since Martina Navratilova. Williams delivered some of her familiar big serves and groundstrokes at age 45 while beating Peyton Stearns — a player who is 22 years younger — by a 6-3, 6-4 score at the DC Open. Tuesday night's victory in Washington was the first for Williams in nearly two years. Navratilova was 47 in 2004 when she won for the final time. The former No. 1-ranked Williams had not played singles in an official match since March 2024 in Miami, missing time while having surgery to remove uterine fibroids.
