OKEECHOBEE — A 911 caller told dispatch a 4-year-old boy wandered into his yard and told other children he was lost.
The incident occurred on May 24 at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Southeast 175th Court.
Okeechobee County sheriff’s Deputy William Jolly was dispatched to the home of the caller and met with the man who called 911. The man told him he was outside when his children came and told him there was a boy in the front yard saying he was lost. The man talked to the boy and asked him his name and where he lived, but the little boy was unable to say where he lived. He did day he was thirsty, and the family gave him a bottle of water before calling law enforcement.
The deputy asked the boy several questions but the child could not tell him where he lived or what color his house was. He put the boy in his car and drove around the area hoping the boy would recognize him home, but they had no luck.
Soon though, Deputy Eric Gauroniak called to tell him he found the boy’s aunt.
When Deputy Jolly arrived at the home of the aunt, the woman told him the boy was asleep when she checked on him, so she started doing laundry. When she went back to check on him, he was gone, and she had been searching the neighborhood ever since.
The child was returned to his aunt without further incident.
