OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity soccer is set to host the Westwood Panthers in an important district game on Jan. 15.
The Brahmans are 3-1-1 in district games so far. Okeechobee hit the road for back-to-back district games against the Legacy Lions and Sebastian River Sharks on Nov. 10 and 13. The Brahmans defeated the Lions 3-1 and shutout the Sharks 4-0. They then lost a close district game 3-0 to Jensen Beach on Nov. 20 but bounced back with another district win over Legacy 4-1 on Dec. 4.
Okeechobee tied Port St. Lucie 1-1 in their district game on Dec. 17, just before the Christmas break.
Their 3-1-1 record in district games this season currently make the Brahmans the third seed in the district, behind South Fork and Jensen Beach. Both those teams are undefeated in district play this season.
This year the Brahmans have swept DeSoto County, Clewiston, Tradition Prep, Legacy, and Lake Placid. During their most recent game against Lake Placid Okeechobee shut out the Dragons 8-0.
Senior Alexander Gomez led the team with two goals and one assist in that win, while senior Alejandro Lopez and freshman Izaak Torres each had 5 and 3 saves respectively.
Last season Okeechobee advanced to the district semifinals before falling to the South Fork Bulldogs in a close 2-1 game. Jensen Beach would go on to defeat South Fork to claim the district title.
The Brahmans and Panthers play at 6 p.m. on Jan. 15 at OHS.
