OKEECHOBEE — The Douglas Park and Dean’s Court communities will host a weekend of celebration, reflection, and fellowship in honor of Juneteenth. This series of community-hosted events is free to the public and designed for all ages.
Friday, June 19 is Inaugural Trivia Night & “Breaking Bread.”
Kick off the weekend with an evening of education and community dining at Douglas Brown Community Center located at 826 N.E. 16th Ave in Okeechobee. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. for the following events:
• Youth Trivia: Categorized for ages 6–12 and 13–17.
• Community Meal: “Breaking Bread” dinner provided by the members of Douglas Park and Deans Court.
Registration is mandatory. Priority seating will be given to the parents of participating youth. Space is limited.
Saturday, June 20: Family Kickball & Fun Day
A day dedicated to outdoor recreation and classic family games at 1 p.m. at the Willie Alderman Field located at 424 N.E. 15th Ave. Activities include a kickball tournament, sack races, cake walks, musical chairs, and line dancing.
Families must register in advance to participate. Spots are limited.
Sunday, June 21: Big Ball & Community Yard Sale
Close out the weekend with community commerce and sports at the Willie Alderman Field at 2 p.m. Join the community for the “Big Ball” game and browse local treasures at the community-wide yard sale.
