OKEECHOBEE- Okeechobee High School will have a new principal next year.
Christina Norman is set to be the next principal at the high school, taking over for Lauren Myers who is now assistant superintendent for instructional services.
Norman isn’t a newcomer to OHS. She spent time as an assistant principal at the high school before becoming principal at Everglades Elementary. While at OHS, she was awarded Assistant Principal of the Year by the Okeechobee County School District.
She’ll be helping lead OHS as construction on the building’s replacement heats up this summer heading into next school year. The new CTE building is almost complete and should be ready for students in August. The old CTE building will be demolished over the summer. Work on tearing down the building was scheduled to start on June 10, but heavy rain all throughout that week slightly delayed things.
Early artist renderings of the new high school depict a two story, brick building. Plans included a larger gym, dedicated wrestling and weightlifting rooms, and expanded bathrooms. The bleachers will seat 2,200 and the court will be large enough to hold two volleyball games at the same time, which opens the possibility of the school playing host in district tournaments.
Norman won’t be the only new principal at Okeechobee schools when kids head back this August. Sonya Vandermolen has accepted the position at Seminole Elementary, while Jessica Lowe will be the new principal at North Elementary.
