OKEECHOBE – Due to the extremely cold temperatures predicted for Monday morning, Okeechobee County Schools is taking additional steps to ensure students remain safe. To prioritize student well-being during this severe weather event, the District will excuse absences for students who are not in attendance on Monday.
“Student safety is always our top priority,” said Superintendent Dylan Tedders. “When weather conditions create additional risk for students traveling to and from school - especially early in the morning - we want families to have the flexibility to make the decision they believe is safest for their child.”
For those parents whose children will be attending school on Monday, please be sure to follow these precautions:
· Dress students in warm, layered clothing, including jackets/coats, hats, and gloves when possible.
· Plan for extra time at bus stops and supervise younger students if feasible.
· If your child has a medical condition that may be impacted by cold temperatures, consult your healthcare provider and consider additional precautions.
The District will continue monitoring conditions and will share updates through school communications, Apptegy/Thrillshare alerts, and District social media channels.
