OKEECHOBEE — A 20-year-old Okeechobee man is being held without bond after he allegedly violated his probation when he was arrested for reportedly fleeing from a city police officer in April.

Nathaniel Aaron Doctor Nathaniel Aaron Doctor

Nathaniel Aaron Doctor, N.E. 11th St., was arrested Wednesday, June 15, on a felony charge of violation of probation

- illegal taking of marine turtles.

He was arrested on a warrant that stemmed from an April 29 incident where he allegedly ran from Officer Jeremy Larue, of the Okeechobee City Police Department (OCPD), after he was clocked driving at a speed of 92 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Officer Larue detailed in his probable cause affidavit that he was running radar while sitting in his patrol unit at 907 S.W. Park St. At 12:44 a.m. he saw a black Mercedes Benz traveling east on S.W. Park Street at a high rate of speed.

That affidavit was used to obtain an arrest warrant for Doctor that charged him with resisting a law enforcement officer with violence.

The officer went on to state that his radar indicated the Mercedes was traveling at a speed of 92 mph.

When Officer Larue tried to stop the Mercedes the driver apparently refused to stop. Keeping the vehicle in his sight, the officer chased the Mercedes through the city and to a residence on S.W. Second Street.

“The driver, later identified as Nathaniel Doctor, exited the driver’s side of the Mercedes Benz, looked at me then ran into the house — ignoring my lawful order to stop,” stated the officer’s affidavit.

When the officer searched the home he learned Doctor had fled out the back door.

Besides the resisting charge, Doctor was arrested on another local warrant that charged him with failure to appear - driving while license suspended.

That charge is also a misdemeanor.

He is being held on $3,500 bond in the Okeechobee County Jail.

Doctor was then arrested June 15 by Joseph Cracchiola, from the Department of Corrections (DOC), for violating his probation. He is being held without bond on that charge.

Doctor was placed on probation following his Aug. 4, 2015, arrest in Jupiter by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Officer Bradley Toby. Doctor and Andrew E. Davis, 18, also of Okeechobee, and two juveniles were arrested after they were allegedly caught with 29 live green sea turtle hatchings.

The juveniles were released into the custody of their parents and were not charged.

“This offender (Doctor) has an arrest history which includes aggravated battery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a victim known to be pregnant,” stated the probation officer’s arrest affidavit. “Based on this arrest history, the fact that he continued to drive without a valid license and this officer’s belief that he is a high risk to abscond, a warrantless arrest was conducted in accordance with DOC policy.”

Officer Larue also issued Doctor traffic citations for unlawful speed (92 mph in a posted 25 mph zone) and for driving while license suspended with knowledge.
