OKEECHOBEE — A 42-year-old Okeechobee native was charged with DUI last week after a 911 caller told dispatchers he was following an intoxicated driver. Okeechobee City Police Officer Jessica Francis was dispatched to the area of Dominoes Pizza on April 14 at approximately 12:30 a.m.
As Francis approached the area, she was notified the driver, later identified as Travis Larson, had left Dominoes and was driving through the neighborhood behind the pizza place. The caller was concerned because he said the truck was swerving all over the road and was driving into oncoming traffic. Francis located the truck which she noted was on the wrong side of the road, nearly hit a mailbox and swerved into and back out of a ditch.
According to Francis’ report, Larson began crying when she approached him and told her it was no use taking a sobriety test because she had already made up her mind. He told her he “knows how this goes,” because he has been arrested for DUI twice before. Larson refused a breath test, and his bond was set at $500. He has requested a jury trial.
