OKEECHOBEE — A local electrical contractor was released on bond following his second arrest in just over a month on felony drug charges.

According to an arrest report by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Deputy Brian Cross, he also arrested a 16-year-old juvenile who was in the same vehicle with James Alan Shockley.

Shockley, 40, S.W. 83rd Ave., was arrested Sunday, Sept. 27, on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone), possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam) without a prescription, possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) without a prescription and child abuse.

He was booked into the Okeechobee County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Deputy Cross went on to indicate the juvenile was also booked into the county jail on one felony count of possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) then released into the custody of his parents.

The deputy’s report indicated he stopped Shockley in the 600 block of S.R. 70 E. because the vehicle he was driving had inoperable tag lights and for failure to obey a traffic signal.

When Shockley, the owner of James Shockley Electrical Services Inc., and the juvenile stepped out of the vehicle Deputy Cross documented how both were “... very nervous, (their) hands (were) shaking uncontrollably (and) their pupils were dilated.”

The deputy stated both Shockley and the youth also had sores on their faces and arms which is a “common sign of pill and methamphetamine users.”

During a search of Shockley’s person, Deputy Cross stated he found two plastic bags. In one bag he allegedly found 11 oxycodone pills, and in the other he reportedly found seven oxycodone 30mg pills and three alprazolam 2mg tablets.

After booking Shockley on the felony charges, Deputy Cross said he also issued the electrician traffic citations for failure to obey a traffic control device and no working tag lights.

OCSO records indicate Shockley was arrested Aug. 16 on one felony count of possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) without a prescription.

He was booked into the county jail on $5,000 bond, then later released on bond.
