Summer has arrived, bringing with it longer days and shorter nights. The Summer Solstice is Thursday, June 20, marking the official start of the summer season and the longest day of the year in terms of sunlight.

Did you know the South Florida Water Management District offers many ways for you to explore the natural beauty of Central and Southern Florida this season and all year long?

The SFWMD is the steward for more than 1 million acres of public lands. Each year, the SFWMD takes steps to enhance and expand the recreational use of properties throughout our 16-county region. Activities at each location are compatible with natural resources protection and intended land use priorities.

From camping to bird-watching to hiking and more, you will find plenty of ways to enjoy the long summer days. Whether you’re an avid adventurer or you just want to explore the great outdoors, SFWMD-managed lands provide activities for all ages and skill level. Activities include:

• Camping: SFWMD has campgrounds throughout the region that accommodate tents, RVs, groups, equestrians and more. Each campsite offers unique views of South Florida’s diverse ecosystem.

• Hiking: SFWMD lands offer many miles of hiking trails for you to explore. Enjoy the longest days of the year and reconnect with nature along picturesque trails.
