OKEECHOBEE -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that occurred at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, on State Road 70 at N.E. 128th Avenue.
The crash involved a 2015 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 40-year-old Margate man and a 2025 Kia, driven by a 24-year-old Okeechobee man.
According to the Troop L Fort Pierce district report, the semi-truck was traveling southbound on NE 128th Avenue. The Kia was traveling eastbound on SR-70 within the inside lane.
The FHP report states the semi driver apparently failed to observe the Kia. The semi traveled across SR-70, into the path of the Kia. The front of the Kia struck the left side of the semi's trailer, resulting in one confirmed fatality.
Traffic was diverted around the scene.
Next of kin notification is pending.
