Florida Community Health Centers celebrate 50 Years of Caring

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH — As part of National Health Center Week, August 2–8, Florida Community Health Centers (FCHC) will honor five decades of improving access to healthcare for Florida families and communities.

Since 1976, Florida Community Health Centers has grown into one of Florida's largest federally qualified health centers, providing comprehensive healthcare services throughout the Treasure Coast, Palm Beach County, Okeechobee, and surrounding communities. What began as a mission to improve access to care has evolved into a health system that delivers primary care, pediatrics, women's health, dental care, behavioral health, pharmacy services, and specialty programs.

From birth and beyond, FCHC serves every stage of life, caring for generations of families, including insured, uninsured, and underinsured patients, and helping communities stay healthy close to home. For 50 years, we've cared for your grandparents, your parents, and now your children.

During National Health Center Week, FCHC will recognize the patients, healthcare professionals, community partners, elected officials, volunteers, and supporters who have helped advance that mission over the last five decades.

"Fifty years is more than an anniversary, it's a celebration of the relationships and partnerships that have helped us improve lives and strengthen communities," said Dr. Wilhelmina Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Florida Community Health Centers. "We've cared for your grandparents, your parents, and now your children. That legacy is only possible because of the patients, employees, partners, and supporters who have trusted us to be their healthcare home."

For many communities across Palm Beach County, the Treasure Coast, Okeechobee, and surrounding areas, FCHC serves as a critical healthcare access point, helping patients receive preventive care, manage chronic diseases, access behavioral health services, obtain affordable medications, and receive prenatal and pediatric care close to home.

Beyond improving health outcomes, Florida Community Health Centers strengthens local economies by creating jobs, reducing avoidable emergency room visits, improving workforce health, and ensuring families have access to healthcare where and when they need it. Through partnerships with schools, hospitals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, and local governments, FCHC helps build healthier, stronger communities throughout Florida.

FCHC invites community leaders, elected officials, business partners, and residents to visit local health centers, meet healthcare teams, learn about services available in their communities, and celebrate the impact community health centers have made over the past 50 years.
