Football around Lake Okeechobee saw a shutout, a pair of blowouts and the end of Pahokee's unbeaten start. All six local teams lost, none of them to each other, and the Blue Devils' narrow home defeat was the closest any of them came to a win. Okeechobee and Clewiston are both idle this week, leaving four games on the area slate Friday night.
Pahokee Blue Devils (3-1)
The Blue Devils' perfect start is over. Pahokee fell 21-17 to Atlantic at home on Thursday, Sept. 10, a week after rolling past Benjamin. The loss dropped Pahokee to 3-1, while the Eagles made it two wins in a row to improve to 3-1 as well. Quarterback Braylon Peterson still leads Carlos Lammons Sr.'s first-year team with 671 total yards through four games, and senior Uzarus Boswell has accounted for four touchdowns. Pahokee hits the road this week to face Boynton Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The Tigers (0-4) have not won yet and were last in action on Sept. 4, when they were shut out 42-0 at American Heritage.
Okeechobee Brahmans (2-3)
A week after falling at Clewiston, the Brahmans lost 30-24 at home to St. Edward's on Sept. 11. The same Pirates team that beat Okeechobee 28-7 a season ago. The Brahmans have now dropped three straight after a 2-0 start to their first SSAA season and sit at 1-3 in the conference. Okeechobee has an open date this week and returns to action Sept. 25, traveling to Lake Placid for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Clewiston Tigers (1-4)
A week after beating Okeechobee 14-8, Clewiston was shut out 35-0 at home by Calvary Christian Academy of Fort Lauderdale on Sept. 11. Like Okeechobee, Clewiston is off this week and won't play again until Sept. 25, when they travel to Lemon Bay for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Glades Day Gators (1-4)
Glades Day has dropped two in a row and four of five. A week after a 44-10 home loss to Westminster Academy, the Gators fell 57-19 at Jupiter Christian on Sept. 11. Glades Day stays on the road this week, traveling to Tavernier to face the Coral Shores Hurricanes at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18. The Hurricanes are 2-3 so far this season.
Glades Central Raiders (1-3)
One week after scoring 55 points, the Raiders couldn't find the end zone twice. Glades Central lost 10-7 to Royal Palm Beach at home on Thursday, Sept. 10. Junior quarterback Tawan Roux still leads the team at 163.8 passing yards per game, and Jakevius Bradford paces the defense with 8.3 tackles a game. Glades Central hits the road this week to face Atlantic at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The Eagles (3-1) are the same team that beat Pahokee 21-17 last week.
Moore Haven Terriers (1-2)
Moore Haven couldn't build on its home-opening win. The Terriers were shut out 36-0 at Victory Christian Academy in Lakeland on Sept. 11, a conference loss that dropped them to 1-2. Moore Haven stays on the road this week, traveling to Fort Myers to meet Evangelical Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The Sentinels (1-1) are coming off a 46-14 win over Marathon.
