OKEECHOBEE — On Saturday morning, Jan. 24, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a small passenger vehicle traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph on SR-710 near the 15A area, heading east toward the Martin County line.
As deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle, the driver took extreme and dangerous actions to evade law enforcement, placing heavy traffic at significant risk. Due to the immediate danger posed to innocent motorists, deputies made the decision not to engage in a pursuit. The driver’s elevated speed, aggressive maneuvers, and reckless actions created an unacceptable risk, and public safety outweighed the need for immediate apprehension.
The vehicle continued driving recklessly through traffic, passing vehicles on both the left and right shoulders of the roadway before turning onto SR-714, locally known as Martin County Grade. Information was relayed to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, which was already receiving multiple 911 calls regarding the vehicle.
