The following column is the Road Watch report for Glades County for the week beginning Sunday, May 26, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

US 27 from Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line: (Construction project) Crews will be milling and resurfacing US 27 form Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line. Other improvements include widening, guardrail, and signing and pavement markings. The bridge over Fisheating Creek will be repaired/rehabilitated including pile jacketing and spall repairs. During construction daytime lane closures may occur on US 27.

• Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime intermittent lane closures on US 27 throughout the project limits until project completion.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is spring 2024.

SR 78 in Ortona Across from Vulcan Sand Mine: (Maintenance project) Crews will be closing the eastbound lane of SR 78 on Wednesday, May 29 and Thursday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weather permitting. Approximately 1,000 feet of the eastbound lane will be closed with a flagging operation during the day.
