OKEECHOBEE — As a woman was cleaning the area around a defunct convenience store/gas station, she found a badly rusted handgun.

Deputy Daniel Eng, of the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), stated in his report the woman was hired to clean the former Chevron station at 2605 U.S. 441 S.

When the 47-year-old woman moved a bundle of trash Monday afternoon, Oct. 12, the gun fell out. She then contacted the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Eng described the firearm as a semiautomatic EAA Corporation .380 caliber gun with brown wooden grips and a yellow slide. He also indicated the gun was badly rusted.

The firearm will be kept in the OCSO evidence room.
