Hurricane Milton's winds churned Lake Okeechobee Oct. 9 and 10, pushing the lake water up against the side of the dike in a storm surge. The wind was so strong, the water level on the north end of the lake was 7 feet higher than the water level on the south end. The surge left a line of vegetative debris along the shore line.
