MOORE HAVEN- The Moore Haven Lady Terriers basketball team finished the regular season with the best record in school history, a perfect 23-0. And now, they’ve earned the programs first ever district championship.
The Lady Terriers defeated the Fort Meade Lady Miners 46-37 in the district championship on Feb. 6.
Moore Haven and Fort Meade were the number one and two seed in the district this year, and both had a bye in the first round. Fort Meade beat Marathon 50-44 in the semifinal while the Lady Terriers defeated Pahokee 55-33 to advance to the championship.
Last season, Moore Haven put together what was at the time their best season yet. They had a 15-4 record and looked like they were ready to make a run for a district title. But Marathon knocked them out in the championship game last year, giving them district runners up honors.
This year though, the Lady Terriers couldn’t be stopped.
Senior Sa'Nyree Myers led Moore Haven in the championship win with 23 points and five assists. Junior Chanel Hunter led the team with eight rebounds, while junior Charisma Micco and sophomore Cherrish Micco each had six. Charisma also had six steal for the Lady Terriers on defense.
Moore Haven head coach Jeff Gonzales and assistant coach Rashonda Croskey will now get the team ready for the regional playoffs
