Sophomore pitcher Ryland Polhill threw five no-hit innings against American Heritage, including 12 strikeouts. Polhill, Ali Cruz and Jayla Vallejo each had two hits on the night as well.
Polhill and Vallejo are two parts of a sophomore trio in Clewiston that has helped make the Lady Tigers one of the powerhouse softball programs around the lake. The third in that trio, Hillary Martin, has managed a batting average of .365 in her 26-game career with Clewiston so far.
On the mound Polhill has racked up an ERA of 1.97 throughout her first two years, including the 2020 season which was cut short by COVID-19. She has 219 strikeouts in 27 games played.
Ryland has also showed skills at the plate. During Clewiston’s April 5 rematch against Immokalee she hit her first homerun.
Immokalee had beaten the Lady Tigers 10-1 back on March 22, but the April 5 game had a much different feeling. Both teams battled to a 6-6 tie to the seventh inning, with Clewiston able to match Immokalee at every turn. But in the seventh inning Immokalee was able to bring in the go-ahead run and take the 7-6 win over the Lady Tigers.
Next Clewiston is making the trip to Belle Glade to take on the Glades Day Lady Gators. They beat Glades Day earlier this season 11-1 back on Feb. 25.
The Lady Tigers and Lady Gators take the field at 5:30 p.m. on April 15.
