Letter to the Editor: Urge your Senators to defend clean energy tax credits

Posted

Clean Energy Tax Credits help create a more affordable energy system for all consumers. However, the House budget resolution threatens to strangle the rapidly growing clean energy sector by phasing out these incentives.

The tax credits were passed by Democrats, which has made them a target for Republican attacks. However, the reality is that the legislation has overwhelmingly benefited Red districts, with 78% of the funding going to areas held by the GOP. Florida has received $7.7 billion in investments for 65 clean energy projects that include solar power and battery storage and manufacturing of solar and EVs. This investment created around 8,700 new high-paying jobs for Floridians.

“The simple truth is this: many of these credits are Republican policies that we fought to protect,” Senator John Curtis, R-UT wrote. “We must build a thoughtful, principled bill that doesn’t pull the rug out from under American innovators.”

Even if you are not interested in making clean energy choices, you will be negatively affected by the removal of these incentives in the form of higher electricity and gas prices. Demand for energy is expected to increase by 25-50% in the next 10 years due to AI, data farms and hotter temperatures. Growth of supply from solar and efficiency improvements will be required to keep our energy prices from spiking.

Please urge your Senators to defend the clean energy tax credits that help keep our energy prices reasonable while promoting American energy innovation and economic growth.
