Local woman is beaten with crutch

Posted

OKEECHOBEE – After a local woman invited a friend over for lunch, he reportedly began beating her with his fists and a crutch.

On Saturday, Jan. 30, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Misei Esquivel responded to a call regarding an assault at approximately 11:45 a.m.

When she arrived, the complainant told her she invited Clarence Corkey to eat, but when he arrived, he asked her about money he said she owed him. When she said she did not owe him any money, he asked her to come outside so he could show her something. As soon as she stepped out the door, he reportedly began attacking her, punching her in the mouth, hitting her with his crutch and stomping on her head with his boot.

Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, but she refused transport to the hospital.

When Esquivel attempted to interview Corkey, he asked for his lawyer. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and bond was set at $15,000.
