Man attacks father for not buying enough soda

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — On Wednesday, April 1 an OCSO deputy was dispatched to a residence on Northwest Third Avenue in regard to a domestic violence complaint.

The complainant explained that his 19-year-old son had attacked him because of the amount of sodas he bought. He said that he had caught his adult son stealing his mother’s cigarettes and smoking them so he only bought half as many sodas as he usually does to punish him.

The complainant alleged that he was sitting at his kitchen table when his son physically accosted him. He explained that threatening to call the police was the only way to get him to stop but that it only worked for a while. When his son attacked him again he believed it was necessary to contact the police for real.

The deputy noted in his narrative that the complainant’s shirt had a tear in it and the neck of the shirt appeared to be severely stretched out.

The man explained that he did not want to press charges against his son but asked if the police would take him away because he needed a break.

The deputy left without making an arrest but later that same night the man called OCSO because his son was becoming physically violent again. At this time the deputy felt that the son needed to be placed under arrest.

It’s noted in the arrest affidavit that the suspect is autistic and the deputy felt that he needed to be placed under arrest in order to understand that his actions were wrong.

The 19-year-old suspect was placed under arrest and charged with battery. Bond was set at $1,000.
