OKEECHOBEE — A 31-year-old Okeechobee man was arrested April 20 and charged with grand theft auto, aggravated battery and fleeing law enforcement with lights and siren activated. Bryan Corwin, Southwest 16th Avenue was arrested after he reportedly stole a vehicle from the Walpole Feed parking lot on March 8. The owner of the vehicle was working at Walpole at the time, and he got into a car with another employee to search for his missing silver Nissan.
Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Devon Satallante responded to the area of the county line on U.S. 98 North after a 911 call regarding the stolen vehicle. According to Satallante’s report, Corwin continued on into Highlands County despite an attempted traffic stop. His speed was estimated to be in excess of 90mph. After a chase in which Corwin recklessly passed stopped vehicles and drove through a closed intersection, he was finally stopped on Fulmar Terrace, a dirt road off of State Road 70. After fleeing on foot, Corwin was discovered hiding under grass near a fence and was taken into custody without injury.
Corwin’s bond was set at $32,500. Corwin has multiple arrests on his record ranging from a possession of marijuana charge in 2008 to aggravated battery charges and burglary charges to an aggravated battery on a pregnant woman charge in March of this year.
