OKEECHOBEE — Bryan Adams was sentenced to four months in county jail after pleading no contest to charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and driving without a license. Adams was arrested in April 2020 after he was accused of pointing a gun at several people.
On April 9, 2020, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Varnadore was dispatched to the 8600 block of State Road 710 Southeast in response to a call about a suspicious incident. When he arrived, the complainant was waiting for him on the side of the road. The victim told him he was approached by a man in a Ford Ranger as he was leaving his friend’s house. He claimed the man threatened him with a gun. He said the man told him to leave the neighborhood.
A second person told Varnadore Adams pulled up next to him waving a pistol and said, “What you got?” and “You don’t belong in this area.”
When Varnadore pulled the Ford Ranger over, there were three people inside, but the victims all reportedly identified Adams as the man who waved the gun at them. According to Varnadore’s report, he was unable to locate a firearm, but while he was searching, Adams said, “You ain’t going to find anything in there Faggot!” In addition, the report notes Adams became belligerent and chest bumped the deputy several times before he was handcuffed. Throughout the incident, Adams cursed at the deputy and called him names.
The two people in the vehicle with him were reportedly embarrassed by Adams’ behavior and apologized to Varnadore for his lack of respect. They explained they were not in the vehicle when Adams reportedly waved the gun around and knew nothing about it. They became involved when he stopped at their home and asked them to drive him home.
Adams was initially charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, resisting arrest without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and corruption by threatening a public servant. The charges of corrupting a public servant and resisting arrest were later dropped.
