OKEECHOBEE — A Moore Haven girl was arrested and charged with DUI with a passenger under the age of 18.
According to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, Macy Lyn Cox, 18, was arrested by Deputy Victor Cabrera on Dec. 16 at approximately 3:45 a.m. at the McDonald's on Northeast Park Street.
Deputy Todd Addington pulled the driver over and requested assistance with a DUI investigation from Deputy Cabrera. Their report notes that Cox stumbled as she exited the car, and the deputies asked her if she would be willing to take a field sobriety test. She agreed but told the deputies she was sick with strep throat and had slept all day. The deputies noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from the girl’s breath, which became stronger as she spoke. She allegedly said she drove from Lake Port to get food and had dropped her sister off. She denied drinking any alcohol despite slurred speech and a delayed response to answering questions. After the sobriety test, she was arrested.
Deputy Addington’s report notes a sleeping backseat passenger but does not specify her age.
Bond was set at $1,000.
