OKEECHOBEE- In recognition of National Principals Month, the Okeechobee County School Board is celebrating the exceptional leadership and commitment of its campus principals, with a special emphasis and pride that 80 percent of the district’s principals are homegrown, having graduated from the same schools and community they now serve.
These leaders represent a unique tradition of continuity and dedication in Okeechobee County Schools, where educators often return to invest in the same community that shaped their own educational journeys.
“Our principals are true examples of servant leadership,” said Dylan Tedders, Superintendent of Okeechobee County Schools. “They have a personal understanding of our district’s values, challenges, and strengths because this is their home. Their passion for the success and well-being of our students runs deep.”
Throughout the district, these principals are recognized not only for their instructional leadership and commitment to academic excellence but also for their personal investment in fostering a culture of pride, belonging, and growth among students and staff.
“Being an educational leader in my hometown is both a privilege and a responsibility,” said Raeann Whiteside, principal of Everglades Elementary School. “I’m proud to give back to the same community that helped shape who I am today, and I want every student here to feel that same sense of support and possibility.”
During October, Okeechobee County Schools will highlight each principal’s story and contributions through district communications and social media as part of its National Principals Month recognition efforts.
“Strong schools begin with strong leadership,” Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Dr. Joseph Stanley added. “We are grateful to have principals whose leadership is rooted in a genuine love for this community and an unwavering commitment to student success.”
