OKEECHOBEE – A 21-year-old Okeechobee woman died in a traffic crash on State Road 710 on Oct. 1, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident involved a 2000 Ford Expedition (SUV) driven by a 21-year-old Okeechobee woman and a 2012 Kenworth W9 Series Tractor hauling a trailer. The accident was reported at 1:07 p.m.
According to the FHP report: The SUV was at a stop sign facing northeast on SE 86th Boulevard attempting to turn left to travel west on State Road 710. The semi was traveling east on State Road 710 approaching SE 86th Boulevard. As the SUV turned left, the driver of SUV failed to yield the right of way, traveling into the semi’s lane of travel. As a result, the front of the semi collided with the left side of the SUV. The driver of the SUV succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of this traffic crash and was pronounced deceased at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. The semi driver did not sustain any injuries.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
