OKEECHOBEE – At their Nov. 5 meeting, the Okeechobee Board of County Commissioners approved a work order with Sumner Engineering & Consulting, Inc., in the amount of $77,704 to provide engineering design and associated services for a proposed overflow parking lot located on NW 23rd Lane.
Commissioner Michael Sumner abstained from voting because the vendor is his brother’s company.
According to the county staff report, on Dec. 5, 2024, the board approved an exchange of property between Okeechobee County and the Okeechobee County School Board. As part of the exchange, the county acquired a 5-acre parcel located east of Yearling Middle School and south of the Darrell Enfinger Sports Complex on NW 23rd Lane. A 66-foot-wide strip of land is currently used for overflow parking during sporting events at the Sports Complex, and the school board has granted the county an easement for ingress and egress over and across this property.
