Payroll changes cause uproar

Posted

CLEWISTON — Growing pains are affecting the city of Clewiston as the city changes the way payroll is handled.

“I’m a little disappointed in a few customers and people speaking out who don’t really understand these things and staff, but it is going well,” said City manager Danny Williams. He asked City Clerk Lakisha Burch if she would speak on the subject, and she agreed.

She explained there was a transition in payroll that happened on May 1. She said this was something they were all aware of and added that it was her first time entering into Tyler Technologies’ payroll system. “With that being said, we have found a few areas that our system does have little glitches. The Tyler System. We found out that our procedures when it comes to payroll have had glitches. And, we have found out that there are some things going on that we don’t particularly care for.”

While working on these things, they made some changes, created some policies and have found they are not making everyone happy along the way. “We understood that. We knew that there was going to be some transitioning going on,” she said. “We knew there were going to be some rough areas.”

She said the part that has bothered her the most throughout the transition is the disrespect and unprofessionalism they endured while trying to make the changes. Every change that is being made, that has been made, that has been discussed, was not the result of them waking up one morning and deciding to make changes. “These changes have been in the works for months,” she said. “It is for the betterment of the city of Clewiston.”

She ended by saying she apologizes for any inconvenience caused but is trying to make sure the city gets what it pays for.

Williams finished by saying he is a little bit agitated by some things but firmly believes Burch is doing a great job.
