Reflections from the Pulpit: The position of humility

Posted

Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5.

Peter sometimes gets a bad rap because he always seemed to, “put his foot in his mouth.”

He was impulsive and it occasionally got him into trouble.

But if anyone knew about humility it was Peter!

Many times, Peter’s pride got him into trouble and in some really embarrassing and shameful situations.

But as Peter grew closer to the Lord, and realized his position “In Christ”, he learned from his mistakes.

Peter learned to humble himself under the mighty hand of God!

That word “Under” is the position we need to take as we humble ourselves. We voluntarily place ourselves “under” God’s sovereignty and authority, acknowledging that God is all-powerful and with His mighty hand He can discipline and protect.

God provides us with all we need and in His time, He will give us the strength, courage, and boldness to do what only He has called us to do!

It’s only when we “Humble ourselves” can God begin to exalt us.

James 4:6 - “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

I must not be impulsive and get ahead of God and ask God to take all my cares and worries before I have humbled myself before Him. If God resist the proud, and I am prideful in my asking, then it would be as if God is not even listening.

Each day, take the time to “position” yourself before the Lord in humility, placing yourself under His grace and guidance.

Then go to Him in prayer, and let Him know your concerns for He loves and cares for you so much.

Peter may have found this out the hard way, but when he did, he became a powerful tool in God’s mighty hand!

May our Lord and Savior do the same to you as well!

“Until Christ is formed in you…”
