OKEECHOBEE -- A soccer camp set for July could help the Okeechobee High School Brahman soccer program take the next step in the playoffs next season.

Boxfit Okeechobee and the Children’s Services Council are partnering to offer the Boxfit FC Soccer Camp on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from July 2-25.

The camp is coached by current OHS Brahman soccer coach Wilson Barahona and is for boys aged 13-16. Students in this program will learn team chemistry skills on the ball and off the ball simulations. They’ll practice offensive and defensive tactics to improve team play.

Overall the camp will help athletes with improved decision making in game-like settings and more confidence while playing with their teammates.

Last season the Brahmans secured a district runners-up trophy in the district playoffs. Okeechobee beat Fort Piece Westwood 5-2 in the opening round of the playoffs, which advanced them to the semifinals where they defeated the Bayside Bears 5-2. Overall the coach Barahona and his Brahmans finished with a 10-5-1 record last season.

Playing in a sport can help students off the field as well. Working together with teammates on a common goal helps students learn about teamwork and how to communicate effectively and solve problems.

The camp begins on July 2 and will run from 9 am - 11 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until July 25. There’s a $95 fee that includes access to the camp as well as a soccer ball, drawstring bag, and camp shirt. Those interested can reach out to coach Barahona by email at wilson.santos@okee.k12.fl.us.
