ORLANDO — Special Olympic coaches Bernard Marker and Chelane Sheffield accompanied athletes Omar Martinez and Joey Lane to the Special Olympics State Games in Orlando this past weekend, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. They began practicing bocce ball in February and advanced to state level. While there, they experienced a commencement ceremony where Mickey and Minnie Mouse made an appearance along with various law enforcement officers. A torch run and a fireworks show and a dance took place as well. All events were held at the arena at Wide World of Sports. Games were the following day on Saturday, May 16. Next on their agenda is bowling. They both hope to qualify for regional and then state in that sport as well.
