OKEECHOBEE — A pursuit that started on Brighton Reservation ended in Okeechobee when a local man was reportedly caught behind the steering wheel of a stolen car.

Austin Shane King, 19, S.W. 11th St., Okeechobee, was arrested early Monday, Nov. 9, on felony charges of grand theft - auto and dealing in stolen property.

He is being held in the Okeechobee County Jail on $10,000 bond.KING, AUSTIN

Deputy William Jolly, of the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), stated in his arrest report he and two other deputies had been told to be on the lookout for a 2013 silver Chevrolet Captiva. That vehicle had been reported stolen and was involved in a pursuit with the Seminole Police Department around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, continued the report. The deputy’s report is not clear on exactly when, or where, the car was stolen.

Deputy Jolly’s report indicated the Captiva would be displaying a Florida handicapped license tag.

After seeing the car Deputy Jolly, along with OCSO deputies Brant Hardin and Bryan Crawford, stopped the vehicle around 3:42 a.m. in the 2700 block of U.S. 98 N.

According to Deputy Jolly’s report King was driving the car.

King, and an 18-year-old woman with him, were taken into custody without further incident. The woman was not arrested.

Clerk of Court records show at the time of King’s recent arrest he was already free on probation. He had been arrested in March on a felony charge of failure to appear - burglary and a misdemeanor charge of failure to appear - petit theft. Circuit Court Judge Sherwood Bauer then sentenced King to six months in the county jail, to be followed by two years on probation.
