Suncoast Credit Union donates funds for Immokalee Foundation student transportation van

Posted

Naples, FL—06/10/24—Suncoast Credit Union recently covered 100% of the costs of a new 15-passenger student transport van for The Immokalee Foundation.

"Though critical to the local economy, Immokalee is located 35 miles from downtown Naples," explained Immokalee Foundation President and CEO Noemi Y. Perez. "Access to adequate transportation is one of many ways the migrant farming community of Immokalee is underserved. As a significant amount of The Immokalee Foundation's afterschool and summer programming involves travel, having the means to transport students is essential to our success. We are so grateful to Suncoast Credit Union for generously addressing this special need."

Foundation students travel to various field trips and career panels during the school year, exposing them to business professionals in different industries throughout our region. Once a year, rising high school seniors travel to visit colleges and universities throughout the state.

This summer, 53 Immokalee Foundation students will participate in paid internships at 19 locations throughout Southwest Florida. Each student intern will require transportation.

In addition, Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) will once again assist The Immokalee Foundation in providing a summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camp for the Foundation's Middle School Program students. FGCU will also support the Foundation's award-winning Career Pathways program by hosting Healthcare, Education & Human Services, and Business Management & Entrepreneurship camps for high school students. All camps require transportation from Immokalee to the FGCU Campus in Fort Myers.

“Supporting education and children is part of our DNA at Suncoast,” said Kourtney Berry, Executive Director, Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. “We are proud to contribute to The Immokalee Foundation to empower and enhance students on their educational journey. Every student deserves access to resources and opportunities, and this vehicle will help make that possible.”
