MOORE HAVEN- The Moore Haven Terriers varsity baseball team held off a late rally by the Glades Central Raiders to secure an 11-10 victory and start the season with back-to-back wins.
Moore Haven kick started their season with a 17-2 blowout over Sheridan Hills Christian on Feb. 11. Six Terriers were credited with RBIs in the blowout win, including Jaelin Johnson, Levi Watson, Bryce Crumb, Manny Rodriguez, Kenneth Simmons, and Tim Urbina. Johnson also had three stolen bases.
While the game against Sheridan Hills was a blowout, the Glades Central Raiders came back in the later innings to make it a close game. The Terriers started the game by taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Raiders scoered four runs by the fourth inning, but Moore Haven kept pace and added two runs of their own to make the score 7-4.
Each team scored a run before the seventh inning and the Raiders faced an 8-5 deficit. But Glades Central rallied and scored five runs to take the lead for the first time in the game, 10-7. The Terriers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Johnson had four hits on the night, three RBIs and two doubles. He led the team in stolen bases as well with three.
The Terriers will face the Raiders again in a few short weeks. They travel to Belle Glade to take in Glades Central on March 7. But before that they will be on the road in Punta Gorda to play the Babcock Trailblazers on March 4.
