Did you ever notice how the ups and downs of life can sometimes come together—back to back—with no warning? One minute, we’re up; life is good…and seconds later, the bottom falls out and we’re wondering what happened. We came through COVID and returned to normal living; now it’s reared its ugly head again. Perhaps we finally got the job we wanted; now it’s not working. Just when we think we’ve updated just about everything in our home, something else needs to be replaced. Will it ever stop? As I was thinking about these things and walking through the kitchen, there it was! A message on my refrigerator…a magnet that’s been there for quite some time and I almost never notice it:
Lord, help me to remember that
nothing is going to happen today
What a perfect reminder for all of us! And the irony is that this magnet belonged to a friend I lost a few years ago, who acted as if she didn’t believe a word of it! I’d like to believe that in the quietness of her soul she did believe it. We sometimes think of God as far off, perhaps disconnected from the trying times of this world. But nothing could be farther from the truth. Whatever each day brings, we are not alone. God is present, always by our side. Besides, whatever happens…God and I—God and us—will handle it!
