The apostle Peter is known for many things, including walking on water…if only for a moment. But it wasn’t easy. While fishing, Peter sees Jesus walking toward the boat on the water! “Come, Peter, walk toward me!” Surely Peter thought, “Really?” And you can imagine Jesus saying in exasperation, “Peter…get out of the boat!” Isn’t that pretty much a daily command for us who claim to be Christians? “Get out of your comfort zone,” Jesus says, “follow me! Get out of your safe place, and trust me! Take the plunge and you’ll be amazed what I have for you!”

Jesus wants us to trust Him with whatever He has for us. In today’s world it might be easier and certainly less threatening to stay in that familiar place where there are no surprises. But our God knows what we need, what will help us grow closer to Him. As a little girl I was fascinated with stories of the saints. They had such love for God that it showed in every aspect of their lives. Those stories opened my eyes and I definitely didn’t want to miss a word. Those were times God planted the seeds of desire in my heart to be one of those followers.

Today I look forward to moments of discovery, when Jesus will turn His attention to me in my comfortable place and say, “It’s time to take the plunge. You don’t want to miss what I have for you.”
