BELLE GLADE – Two Pahokee men and one Wellington man have been charged with first degree murder with a firearm in connection to a Nov. 19, 2022 shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) report, On Nov. 19, 2022 deputies responded to a report of a shooting outside a residence near North Cocoanut Road in Pahokee where they found one man injured and another dead. The name of the murder victim, a 33-year-old male has not been released. The injured man was identified as Thomas Murvin, aka “Jay Lane,” 19.

Murvin told detectives he was standing outside when he heard multiple gun shots. He claimed he was looking at his mobile device and did not see the shooter.

Near the crime scene, deputies encountered Larry Dunnon walking along McClure Road. Dunnon appeared wet and dirty. He told deputies that shortly before the shooting, his girlfriend had dropped him off to purchase marijuana from an individual named “Jay.” He claimed that during the drug transaction, he heard shots and ran away in fear and wound up in a small canal. He claimed after the shooting discontinued, he climbed out of the canal. He was unable to tell deputies the name of the woman who had dropped him off. When asked if she was his current girlfriend, he reportedly replied yes, “well I have a side chick too.”

Along the path between the shooting scene and the canal, deputies found .45 caliber cartridge casings. A .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol was located about 15 to 20 feet from the location the investigation established Dunnon went into the canal.

Detectives procured video surveillance of the area near the homicide scene. In video taken prior to the shooting, they saw a silver Nissan Truck driving toward the homicide scene on North Cocoanut Road. Witnesses told deputies they had seen Murvin and Drake Hamilton in the truck. Hamilton was later found to be in possession of the keys to the truck, which was parked a short distance from the residence where he was staying.

Hamilton claimed he was not in Pahokee on the night of the shooting. Detectives procured the cellular site data for his mobile device, which showed it in Pahokee that night.

“Based on the sworn testimony and evidence uncovered during the investigation, detective established Drake Hamilton was driving the silver Nissan truck at the time of the homicide. He was accompanied by Thomas Murvin and Larry Dunnon,” the report continues.

“The physical evidence and forensic evidence recovered at the scene was consistent with Larry Dunnon firing the .45 semiautomatic pistol as he is moving east to west, towards the small canal. While shooting back towards (the homicide victim), the evidence establishes he shot (the homicide victim) and accidentally shot his accomplice, Thomas Murvin,” the report states.

The DNA results were received on Feb. 17, 2023.

“The investigation established Johny Worthens, a relative and close friend of Larry Dunnon, Thomas Murvin and Drake Hamilton, was reported missing under suspicious circumstances, in September of the year 2022. Currently, Johnny Worthens is presume to be dead. It was rumored (the homicide victim) was complicit in his mysterious disappearance, therefore the investigation established he was killed in retaliation,” the report states.

Larry Denard Dunnon, 27, of Pahokee, was arrested Feb. 27, 2023 and charged with first degree premeditated murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and making a false report to a law enforcement officer.

Thomas Murvin, 19, of Pahokee, was arrested on Feb. 27 and charged with first degree premeditated murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and making a false report to a law enforcement officer.

Dranke Hamilton, 19, of Wellington, was arrested on Feb. 27 and charged with first degree premeditated murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and making a false report to a law enforcement officer.
