PALM BEACH COUNTY – A dump truck driver was killed Friday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving was hit by a train, according to the Palm Beach Count Sheriff’s Office report.
Danilo Vargas, 37, of Lake Worth, was driving a 1997 Mack Dump Truck southbound on US 441 North, approaching the intersection of Morning Star Farms Road. The train was traveling southbound on the railroad tracks that ran parallel with US 441.
As the truck reached the intersection it made a left turn (east) onto Morning Star Road, and immediately entered the railroad crossing directly in the path of the train. During the ensuing collision the right front of the train impacted the drivers side front of dump truck.
As a result of the collision, the truck driver was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
