On Sept. 11, members of Okeechobee County Fire Rescue were joined by the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, Okeechobee City Police Department, and Okeechobee County Emergency Management for a 3.43-mile memorial walk from North Lake Village Plaza to Fire Station #1.
The 3.43 miles represented the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
As we walked, we remembered their courage, their service, and the thousands of lives lost on that tragic day. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed support along the route. The cheers, waves, and honks of encouragement meant more than you know.
A very special thank you to Okeechobee Christian Academy for having students line the sidewalk to remember, honor, and show their support. Seeing the next generation stand with our first responders made the moment even more meaningful.
343. Never Forgotten.
September 11, 2001.
We will always remember. We will always honor
