OKEECHOBEE — An Okeechobee woman was accused of hitting another vehicle and then leaving the scene.
According to the arrest report, the 41-year-old woman was arrested on Sept. 28 at approximately 2:10 p.m. and charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, both misdemeanors.
Okeechobee City Police Detective Brandi Drapal was on road patrol when she received a call from dispatch directing her to the 800 block of South Parrott Avenue. When she arrived, she spoke to the driver whose vehicle was hit. The woman told her she was in the turning lane between Trust Bank and Jeanette’s Interiors. She was stopped, waiting for traffic to clear so she could cross. A silver pickup truck joined her in the turning lane. She said she pulled forward slightly so she could see oncoming traffic. The next thing she knew, the silver truck hit the right rear of her car. The driver of the truck backed up, pulled up next to her (still in the turning lane), cursed her and then pulled into Jeanette’s Interiors. Before she could cross South Parrott and meet the other woman in the parking lot, the truck took off.
The woman told the detective she was able to record some of the incident on her cell phone, and this evidence reportedly confirmed her story,
Officer Adam Crum located the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. The truck was still running, and when the driver got out, she allegedly said she was getting in trouble because the other driver slammed on her brakes. She reportedly told the officer she was only trying to get to work so she could get her license back.
Bond was set at $1,000.
