Woman dies in 5-vehicle crash on SR 29

GLADES COUNTY – A Port St. Lucie man was killed in a five-vehicle accident on State Road 29, near Island Road on Feb. 28, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

According to the FHP the accident occurred at 6:30 a.m.

The five vehicles involved were:

  • Vehicle 1 was a sedan driven by a 33-year-old Port St. Lucie woman, who was fatally injured in the crash. A passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old Port St. Lucie man, was seriously inured.
  • Vehicle 2 was a pickup truck driven by a 28-year-old North Fort Myers man, who was seriously injured. A passenger in that vehicle, a 31-year-old North Fort Myers man, was not injured.
  • Vehicle 3 was a pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old Sebring man, who was injured in the accident. A 33-year-old Sebring man who was a passenger in that vehicle was not injured.
  • Vehicle 4 was a pickup truck, driven by a 46-year-old Hendry County man. He was not injured.
  • Vehicle 5 was a pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old Hardee man, who was not injured.

The report states:

Vehicle 1 (sedan) was traveling south on State Road 29, approaching slower traffic and Island Road.

Vehicle 3 (pickup truck) and Vehicle 5 (Pickup truck towing trailer) were traveling south on State Road 29, behind Vehicle 1.

Vehicle 2 (pickup truck) and Vehicle 4 (pickup truck) were traveling north on State Road 29, approaching Island Road. Vehicle 1 entered the northbound travel lane, in an attempt to pass the slower traffic.

The front of vehicle 1 collided with the front of vehicle 2 on the northbound travel lane.

Post collision, vehicle 1 collided with vehicle 3 and vehicle 4. Driver 1 was ejected from Vehicle 1 and pronounced deceased on scene.

Post collision, the trailer portion of vehicle 5 and vehicle 2 collided.

The crash remains under investigation.
