OKEECHOBEE — A woman safely escaped injury after her vehicle burst into flames while she sat at a school bus stop on N.W. 190th Road.
A report by Okeechobee County Fire/Rescue (OCF/R) firefighter/paramedic Adam Durrance estimated damages to the 2014 Buick owned by Krystal Gore, 30, to be $25,000. He also stated there were no injuries.
OCF/R firefighters used 500 gallons of water and approximately 9 minutes to extinguish the Tuesday, April 12, blaze.
According to a report by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Deputy Corporal Michael Hazellief the woman was waiting for her children and sitting in her vehicle around 3:20 p.m. when she heard “... a loud squealing noise coming from the engine.”
In a matter of moments fire started pouring into the vehicle through its vents.
“She immediately exited the vehicle and called 9-1-1,” added Cpl. Hazellief’s report.
Mrs. Gore reportedly told the deputy she has had no problems with the vehicle, other than a couple weeks ago when a “... white fog came out of the air conditioner vents.” There have been no other problems since then, added Cpl. Hazellief.
The deputy’s report also pointed out all Mrs. Gore was able to safely retrieve from her vehicle were her purse and her electronic devices.
OCF/R personnel contacted the state fire marshal and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
