OKEECHOBEE — On Monday, March 16, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a 54-year-old woman in regards to a strange incident.
According to the incident report, a deputy responded to the Northwest 282nd Street home in reference to a suspicious incident. The woman told the deputy that she had been sitting on her front porch when she observed a vehicle she described as a “loud diesel truck” pulling up to her front gate and then backing out and parking on the roadside. She stated that the truck had an ATV in the truck bed but she was unable to provide further description as to the make or model of the vehicle due to her eyesight.
The complainant explained that what she believed to be an adult male exited the vehicle, speaking to an unknown individual on a cellphone. She believes she heard the adult male say something about “seeing someone on the porch” to the person he was speaking to on the phone. She said that the man then got back into his vehicle and drove away.
She asked the deputy to inspect her home and search for any unwanted individuals or missing property. While conducting the canvas the deputy observed a door on the complainant’s shed sitting ajar. When asked if the door was normally left open, the complainant stated that it was normally kept closed and locked from the outside. She also stated that she lives alone and no one else has keys to any of the locks on her property. At that time the deputy drew his sidearm before fully entering the structure.
No one was found on the premises and no possessions were found to be missing. The neighborhood was canvased for a vehicle matching the description provided but none were located.
